Creative Lab Hosts Kona Meet-and-Greet
Creative Lab Hawai‘i will be holding a meet and greet in Kona to share information about its programs and plans to come to the Big Island in 2018. The event takes place on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Honua Studios.
Creative Lab Hawai‘i is a State of Hawai‘i program composed of three separate modules: immersive programs, ideation workshops and public programs. Their intention is to accelerate global export of Hawai‘i’s creative content and products to strengthen our creative entrepreneurs’ capacity for success.
Founded in 2012 by the State of Hawai‘i’s Creative Industries Division of the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT), Creative Lab Hawai‘i provides a rich environment for creative collaboration and building new business relationships with a global audience.
Industry partners include the Writers Guild of America West, Producers Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild, International Game Developers Association, Film Offices of the Hawaiian Islands, The Cut Collective, Secret Road, Hawai‘i Songwriting Festival, High Technology Development Corporation and the City and County of Honolulu.
Creative Lab Hawai‘i offers public panels, workshops and hands-on coaching and mentoring by industry leaders in areas of screenwriting, new media, broadband, producing, directing, songwriting, technology, the business of acting and fashion design.
Funding for Creative Lab Hawai‘i is provided by the Hawai‘i State Legislature, DBEDT, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) and the U.S. Department of Commerce. Sponsors include The Modern Honolulu, Arthurs Limousine and SpeediShuttle.
Thus far, graduates of the program have produced two motion pictures— How to Win at Checkers [Every Time] and Kuleana. Two additional films are now in pre-production. Four fellows have optioned their pilots including Kona resident Amy Bircher. Five web-series are in production, three songs have been licensed, and one mobile app has been published.
