Three Injured in Highway 19 Head-On

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision at around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at the 88-mile marker on Highway 19 (Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway) in North Kona.

A full-sized truck and a sports utility vehicle were involved in the crash.

The driver of the truck, in his 30s, was trapped in his vehicle and required extrication with Jaws of Life. He sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Kona Hospital for further medical treatment.

The driver, a man in his 60s, and the female passenger of the SUV, in her 30s, were both injured, the extent of injuries was unknown; however, the female passenger appeared to be in critical condition. They were both transported to Kona Hospital.

Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway was blocked while emergency services were on the scene. HPD will continue their investigation. 

The Hawai‘i Police Department will continue its investigation.
