No Tsunami Threat to Hawai‘i After 6.7 New Guinea Quake

The National Earthquake Information Center of the U.S. Geological Survey has reported that a 6.7-magnitude (preliminary) earthquake has occurred in the New Ireland Region of Papua, New Guinea, at 536 p.m. HST, on Wednesday July 12, 2017.

Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawai‘i.
