Sen. Mazie K. Hirono, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today focused her line of questions to Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Nominee Christopher Wray on his meetings with President Donald Trump and administration officials.

Sen. Hirono questioned his ability to act independently of the Trump Administration and vigorously pursue investigations free of political influence.

Sen. Hirono also asked Wray if he would push back on the administration’s efforts to target the Muslim community.

“As the president continues to deny Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and ties to the Trump campaign, it’s vital that our FBI director serves as an independent voice on behalf of the American people,” said Sen. Hirono. “I will continue to question Mr. Wray on his ability to maintain the independence and integrity of the FBI, as well as his views on protecting civil rights.”
