Three Big Island Libraries Celebrate Free Comic Book Day

Free comic books will be available (while supplies last) at three 16th annual Free Comic Book Day events on Saturday, May 6.

Participating Hawai‘i Island public libraries include Hilo, Kailua-Kona and Thelma Parker Memorial.

Just show your valid Hawai‘i State Public Library System card at one of 24 designated libraries statewide, including three Hawai‘i Island branches, to receive a special comic book.

Choose from titles such as Guardians of the Galaxy #1, DC Super Hero Girls, Doctor Who, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess/Ocarina of Time, TokyoPop Disney Descendants and more.

“Our public libraries are very excited to be a part of Free Comic Book Day this year,” said State Librarian Stacey Aldrich. “Comic books inspire us with not only amazing characters and stories but art that ignites our imagination.”

See costumed characters from the Pacific Outpost of the 501st Imperial Legion, Rebel Legion Hawaii and Costumers Guild of Hawaii at select libraries.

If you don’t have a library card, apply for one at your local library.

Free Comic Book Day is celebrated worldwide on the first Saturday in May. Participating libraries and comic book shops have given away millions of free comic books over the past 15 years.

The Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i, Gecko Books & Comics, and Collector Maniacs are sponsoring this year’s event.
