To raise public awareness of the approaching wildfire season on Hawai‘i Island, Hawai‘i Wildfire Management Organization (HWMO) is hosting a Party for Wildfire Awareness event in Kona on Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event will take place at Hale Halawai Park on Ali‘i Drive across from the farmer’s market and next to Daylight Mind Coffee Company.
Wildfires pose a frequent and significant threat in Hawai‘i. They can affect drinking water, coral reefs, fisheries, recreation areas, traffic, native forests, and human lives, houses, safety and health.
The HWMO’s party theme is “Wildfires Impact Everyone” and will include family-friendly activities highlighting prevention efforts as well as simple steps the public can take to protect their homes and communities. The event will also include festive, fun activities: capoeira, swing dance, yoga classes, fire truck demonstrations, various games and activities for keiki, a goat petting zoo, a wa‘a canoe showcase, raffle prizes, live performances, workshops, informational booths, and food vendors.
Visit www.hawaiiwildfire.org for the full schedule of events and classes.
