Hawai‘i Climate March and Festivals Scheduled in Hilo, Kailua-Kona
Two events will be held on Saturday, April 29—the Climate March in Hilo and the People’s Climate March in Kailua-Kona.
“We are a national sister -event to promote social justice and protect the climate,” said Hilo event organizer Kaikea Blakemore.
“On April 29th, we are marching in support of indigenous rights, climate health and environmental restoration, said Blakemore. “As an island nation, we recognize the importance of unifying our communities to support green technology, environmental protection and social justice. We hope to help people connect more deeply to their communities; to support creative ways to mālama ‘āina for a more sustainable Hawai’i, and a more sustainable planet.”
Blakemore added that the 100 Days of Action by the Women’s March on Washington and the 350.org Climate Movement will culminate on this day, with the theme “We Resist, We Build. We Rise.”
The Hilo festival at the Mo‘oheau Bandstand is a day-long event to promote community education, activism and networking.

Organizers encourage the public to bring posters, friends and come march, dance, share information and build community.
The event will also include seed exchanges, planting demos and voter registration tables.

The Kailua-Kona People’s Climate March, organized by Rally for Common Ground, will take place at Hale Halawai from 2 to 6 p.m.
Presenters at the event will be Joshua Lanakila Mangaull, Dash Kuhr, Time Vanderveer, Kalani Souza, Ruth Aloua and Michael Kramer.
