2017 Grammy Winner to Perform Three Shows in Hilo

Grammy Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter Kalani Pe’a will perform three shows in Hilo on Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22.

• Friday, April 21: ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo – Merrie Monarch Cultural Enrichment Programs – Perform: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tickets: $8 for members, $10 for non-members.
• Friday, April 21: Mele Manaka 2017 Music Series – Grand Naniloa Hotel’s Willie K Crown Room – Kalani Pe’a CD Release Concert. Featuring Hilo’s daughter Kaumakaiwa Kanaka’ole. – Perform: 10 p.m. 21 and over. Tickets: $35.
• Saturday, April 22: Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair – Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium – Perform: 1 – 2 p.m. Tickets: FREE.

Pe’a commented on his Hawai’i Island visit: “I am happy to return home to sing my heart out on that day.”

Pe’a’s new CD came out on August 1, 2016 which hit #1 on iTunes on the World Music Charts and #11 on the Billboard Music World Charts.

Pe’a’s debut album “E Walea” just received a coveted and honorable Grammy Award in the Best Regional Roots Music Album Category during the 59th annual Grammy Awards in L.A. Pe’a composed and co-composed seven Haku Mele (Hawaiian music compositions) and performed five of his favorite covers on the award-winning debut album.

Pe’a is the first Native Hawaiian singer/songwriter to win a Grammy in the Best Regional Roots Music Album category since the Best Hawaiian Music album category dissolved in 2011.
