Learn About Hawaiian Language at Volcano Art Center
Volcano Art Center will present “An Evening of Hawaiian Language” with University of Hawai‘i at Hilo instructor ʻĀlika Guerrero on Thursday, May 4, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Guerrero will discuss the importance of perpetuating the Hawaiian language and will present an overview of Papa ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, a series of beginning Hawaiian language classes slated for July at Volcano Art Center.
This informative, engaging presentation will offer a unique opportunity for the community to learn more about the rich Hawaiian language, and to ask any questions about the upcoming class series.
The evening’s theme is ʻO ka ʻŌlelo ke Kaʻā o ka Mauli, translated to “Language is the fiber that binds us to our cultural identity.”
Discover how the advocacy of the Hawaiian culture and language benefits all of Hawai‘i’s people.
This presentation is free; however, donations are welcome.
Guerrero will teach Papa ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, an eight-week series every Friday night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. beginning July 14.
This basics class will focus on simple vocabulary, conversation, grammar and sentence structure.
