Kahilu Theatre Presenting Grammy Nominated New Age Artists
Kahilu Theatre will present two outstanding New Age and World Music musicians who together, have 24 Grammy Award nominations. Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai, and pianist/composer Peter Kater will perform live in concert on Tuesday, April 5 at 7 p.m.
The duo’s music is described as “intimate, intelligent, soulful, soaring and heart-centered,” producing some of the “most memorable and groundbreaking recordings” within their genres. They have collaborated for 25 years.
Kater has performed around the world, including at the United Nations, the Olympics and Carnegie Hall. He has also performed for presidents and celebrities, and is the recipient of the Environment Leadership Award from the United Nations. He has released over 60 critically acclaimed albums, and has scored music for over 100 television and film productions.
Nakai is described as “the world’s premier performer” of Native American flute. He as sold over four million records and received 12 Grammy Award nominations. Since 1983, he has released over 40 albums of his own as well as many guest appearances on others. Nakai holds educational workshops and residencies, in addition to his extensive travel across the United States, Europe and Japan. He has performed with over 15 symphony and chamber orchestras, and his music has been featured in major dance, film and television productions.
