12th Annual Laupahoehoe Music Festival

Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School will host the 12th Annual Laupahoehoe Music Festival on Saturday, April 8, 2017, from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m.

Proceeds will go to the LCPCS music program.

First organized in 2005 under the foresight of Laupahoehoe resident musician Braddah
Smitty, nonprofit Malama Hawaii Nei hosted the event until 2015, awarding nearly $27,000 in scholarships to LCPCS students.

This year’s Hawaiian-style event will feature some of the island’s  music and hula entertainers performing at Laupahoehoe Point Beach Park, noted for its sacred and natural beauty and known to be a regular stopover by Kamehameha in his canoe-voyaging conquest of the islands.

The LCPCS Ukelele Band will play this year, featuring secondary school students under the direction of music instructor Todd Otake.

There will be something for everyone—Diana Aki, LCPCS students, Lori Lei’s Hula Studio, Kolea, The Brown Boys and Average Joes.

Traditional cuisines such as Hawaiian, Thai and more will be available for sale throughout the day.

Games for keiki will be available all day.

Hui Kako-o O Laupahoehoe, a nonprofit organization that supports the school, will again offer a silent auction, with proceeds going to the music program at the school.

Laupahoehoe Music Festival tickets are $15 online or $20 at the gate.

Advance tickets may also be purchased at Hilo Music Exchange, Hilo Guitars and Basically Books.

Tickets may also be purchased at Sakado Store in Laupahoehoe, Taro Patch in Honoka‘a and in Kona at Music Exchange.

Ages 10 and under will be admitted at no charge.

Coolers are not permitted. This is an alcohol- and drug-free event.

Drinks will be available throughout the park for purchase.
