New Solo Artist Exhibits at Kahilu Gallery
Kahilu Theatre will feature the works of three accomplished artists at its Kohala and Hamakua Galleries from Feb. 16 to Mar. 3. The featured artists are Eli Baxter, Jean-René LeBlanc and Margaret Shields.
The exhibition reception will be held on Thursday, Feb. 16 with a special preview for Kahilu Theatre members at 4:30 p.m. The general public is invited to view the works from 5 to 7 p.m. with a no host bar and light pupus offered.
Honolulu resident Eli Baxter is a sculptor and installation artist who will exhibit a series of sculptures entitled “Dancers” in the Kohala Gallery. She uses discarded materials, both organic and inorganic, to create highly detailed works that represent her personal views on consumer culture.
Jean-René LeBlanc is a virtual and digital media artist who lives in Calgary, Alberta. He will be showing a series of infrared photographs entitled “Chasing the Light of Pele” in the Kohala Gallery. The photos, captured during the Artist in Residency Program at Volcano National Park in December 2015, explore the myths and legends surrounding the lava goddess, Pele.
Margaret Shields explores the industrial and natural worlds, observing how they clash and coexist with one another through her paintings and prints. She has been mentored and been assistant to master printmaker Hiroki Morinoue since 2014.
The Kahilu Galleries are free and open to the public Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and during all theater performances. Visit www.kahilutheatre.org or call (808) 885-6868 for more information.
