Hilo International Airport and Hawai‘i County Emergency responders will participate in an exercise on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation stated recently.

The exercise is designed to validate and improve response to a crisis situation. The exercise will involve a fuel vehicle incident. Emergency responders will simulate a vehicle accident scene and may treat volunteers who are pretending to be victims.

The accident is not real; however, the response will be as realistic as possible.

Hilo Airport Fire Department, airport maintenance, airport security, area hospitals, law enforcement, fire and emergency teams, government officials and agencies, and private-sector partners will participate.

The areas where the exercise will take place will be clearly marked, but all area residents should be aware of the exercise in advance.

Officials ask for your patience and support if the exercise disrupts your daily routine. The exercise will not have an operational impact on the daily flight schedules.
