At 5:06 a.m. this morning, Oct. 5, 2016, The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flood Advisory for the island of Hawai‘i in Hawai‘i County to 8:15 a.m.
At 5:02 a.m., radar indicated heavy rain near Hilo. Rain was falling at a rate of about 1 inch per hour.
Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honomu, Mountain View, Kea‘au, Ninole, O‘okala, Laupahoehoe, Pepe‘ekeo, Glenwood, Orchidlands Estates and Hawaiian Acres.
Stay away from streams… drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around… don’t drown.
