Big Island Fair Cancelled Due to Hurricanes
E.K. Fernandez Shows has cancelled the Big Island Fair in Kona, originally scheduled at the Old Kona Airport Recreational Park on Sept. 8, 9, 10 and 11.
With the approach of Hurricane Madeline and Hurricane Lester, the ports of Hilo and Kawaihae will close today at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30.
“That means the barge that was scheduled to take our equipment from Kaua‘i—where we held the Kaua‘i County Farm Fair this past weekend—to Kawaihae on Wednesday, will now bring the equipment to Honolulu instead,” said E.K. Fernandez Shows VP Donna Smith.
The equipment will be stored on O‘ahu, and will not be shipped to Kawaihae in time for next weekend’s Kona fair.
“We are hopeful that the storms do not inflict damage to Hawai‘i Island and that normal shipping will resume shortly after the storm passes,” Smith said.
She said the company is also hopeful—and anticipates—that its equipment will be shipped to Hilo in time to set up for the Hawai‘i County Fair, which is scheduled for Sept. 22 through 25.
E.K. Fernandez organizers have shared no information about rescheduling the Big Island Fair, but depending of various factors, may come to Kona in October after the Maui Fair.
