A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Friday for most Big Island waters for northeast to east winds up to 25 knots or more and seas of 5 to 10 feet.
**Click directly on the images below to make them larger. Charts include: Big Island projected winds, tides, swell direction & period and expected wave heights.**
Hilo side: Wave heights for spots exposed to the trade swell are expected to be waist/head high today.
Kona side: Wave heights are expected to be knee/thigh high today with the best breaks a bit bigger on the sets.
South: Wave heights are expected to be knee/thigh high today with the best breaks a bit bigger on the sets. Spots catching trade swell could get up to knee/waist/chest high.
Our current southerly pulse holds through Friday with a fading trend over Saturday. We may see better swells stacking up for the second week of August out of the South Pacific.
Trade swell is expected to hold steady over the next couple of days.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
