Artist to Present National Park Illustrations

Volcano Art Center will display the illustrations of Big Island Wildlife Artist John D. Dawson in an exhibit titled “National Parks Illustrations 1978 through 2016″ Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sept. 2, 2016, at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.

This exhibition features illustrations and natural history studies designed for the National Parks Service over a 20-year period.

Over the past three decades, Dawson has completed major assignments and appeared in national publications for the National Geographic Society, National Wildlife Federation, Audubon Society, United Nations and the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center, among many others including private commissions.

As a part of this exhibition Dawson will discuss his work at “National Parks Illustrations 1978 through 2016” on Thursday, Aug. 11, in the Great Room of Volcano Art Center’s Administrative offices.

The opening reception begins at 6 p.m.; the presentation begins at 7 p.m.

The event is free, but a $5 donation is greatly appreciated.

The event is part of Thursday Nights at the Center, an evening series at the Volcano Art Center, focusing on art, Hawaiian culture and our environment.
