Pedro Ka‘awaloa to Perform ‘Back On Da Island’
Hilo’s own Pedro Ka‘awaloa returns from Broadway for a musical show on Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5, East Hawai‘i Cultural Center/HMOCA.
Back On Da Island will include guest artist vocalists Rachel Edwards and Samantha Saiki with Mikala Thomas on piano. They’ll take you through a musical journey through everything from contemporary and traditional Broadway to opera, pop, rock and R&B.
Singing mostly solo works, Ka‘awaloa will share his recent experiences from Broadway—what he’s been working on and what’s to come. The program includes music from Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Puccini, and contemporary and traditional Broadway songs.
“It’s almost been two years since I made the move to the East Coast, and I have already had so many adventures!,” said Ka‘awaloa. “I am incredibly grateful for everything the universe has given me so far. I feel like I have grown as a performer and I am excited to sing at home again as I continue to grow.

“I’ll be singing songs from my audition book, songs I have performed in cabarets and songs that I have been wanting to learn for a while now,” said Ka‘awaloa. “I hope you come along with me, Mikala, Rachel, and Samantha on my next great adventure!”
The Saturday performance is at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.
