BRIEF: Pair Arrested for Selling Stolen Jewelry

Two Kona residents were arrested Tuesday after allegedly selling stolen items to a jewelry store.

Douglas Louis, 31, of Captain Cook and Rashel Kahalioumi-Taketa, 34, of Holualoa were arrested at the Kealakekua store Tuesday afternoon.

Working with the victim of a home burglary that occurred last month and the store owner, Kona patrol officers learned that Louis and Kahalioumi-Taketa had sold some of the items stolen during the burglary, and arranged to have the store owner notify police when the pair returned.

Police said the two suspects returned to the store Tuesday afternoon to sell additional items and were arrested afterwards in their car parked outside.

Police then obtained a search warrant for their vehicle and allegedly recovered evidence from crimes that had occurred during the period from December to February.

Louis was charged Thursday with three counts of burglary, six counts of theft, promoting a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at $130,000. Kahalioumi-Taketa was charged with the same drug offenses and four counts of burglary, six counts of theft and two counts of forgery. Her bail was set at $30,500.
