HVNP’s Escape Road to Undergo Improvements

Escape Road in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park will undergo improvements and repairs beginning Monday, May 9.

The roadway runs from Highway 11 to Nahuku, also known as Thurston Lava Tube, in the park.

HVNP officials estimate that the project will last through June on a Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule.

When work is not scheduled, Highway 11 to Nahuku will be open. In addition, Escape Road from Nahuku to Mauna Ulu will not be impacted.

Escape Route is an emergency access route that cyclists, hikers, and equestrians use at HVNP.
