State DII Volleyball Championships Open Wednesday
Konawaena and Pahoa will begin the quest of dethroning Hawai’i Baptist Academy at the New City Nissan/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association Division II State Volleyball Championships, which get underway Wednesday on Oahu.
Hawai’i Baptist, the tournament’s top seed, has won the last five Division II championships and seven titles overall in the 10 years that the divisional split has been enacted in state competition.
Pahoa, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation runner-up, will have the first opportunity to slay the defending champions when the two teams meet on Thursday at Farrington High School. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
Third-seeded Konawaena will open competition against Damien at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The match will be played at Iolani School.
The championship match is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday at the Neal Blaisdell Arena. It will be broadcast on OC16 XCast.
