Three Big Island libraries will offer free comic books on Saturday, May 7 in honor of the 15th Annual Free Comic Book Day.
Hilo Public Library, Kailua-Kona Public Library, and Thelma Parker Memorial Public & School Library are among 22 libraries across the state that will offer comic books. Patrons can select one of several comic books, including Avengers, Pokemon, Captain America, Grumpy Cat, Sponge Bob, or Strawberry Shortcake.
“Our public libraries are excited to be a part of Free Comic Book Day this year,” said State Librarian Stacey Aldrich. “Comic books inspire us with not only amazing characters and stories, but art that ignites our imagination.”

Hawai’i State Public Library System card holders will need to show a valid card in order to receive their comic book.
On the Big Island, Thelma Parker library will have costumed characters. Across the state at specific locations, the characters from the Pacific Outpost of the 501st Imperial Legion, Rebel Legion Hawai’i, and Costumers Guild of Hawai’i will appear at Free Comic Book Day Library events.
Patrons are invited to bring a camera for a photo opportunity.

Free Comic Book Day is celebrated worldwide on the first Saturday in May and participating libraries and comic book shops have given away millions of free comic books over the past 14 years.
