Waiakea Seeded Fourth in DI State Baseball Tournament
Waiakea and Hilo have proven that they can come through in the clutch…against each other.
Next week brings the biggest test for the two Big Island Interscholastic Federation rivals, testing their talent and depth against the best of the state on the island of Maui.
Waiakea, the regular season and overall BIIF Division I champion, received the fourth seed in the Wally Yonamine Foundation/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association Division I State Baseball Championships, which will be played at Ichiro “Iron” Maehara Stadium on Maui. The Warriors will face the winner of Wednesday’s first round game between Maui and Pearl City.
Hilo, meanwhile, will open the tournament on Wednesday by facing Waipahu, one of six teams in the tournament out of the Oahu Interscholastic Association. If the Vikings win, they would meet second-seeded Baldwin on Thursday.
OC16 will televise the semifinals and finals of the Division I tournament.
