TIP Seeks Student Interns for Large State Projects
Applications for the State of Hawai’i’s Transformation Internship Program, which also goes by TIP, are being accepted for the summer.
The Office of Enterprise Technology Services says the program runs from June 20 through Aug. 8 and provides student interns with an opportunity to take part in the planning of a state hackathon.
A hackathon, or code challenge, invites the community to help in the development of modern tools and applications to provide enhanced government services.
“TIP offers undergraduate and graduate students a unique opportunity to work on large enterprise initiatives on a scale few entities other than state government can provide,” said state Chief Information Officer Todd Nacapuy. “Students are assigned to modernization initiatives — many statewide in scope — and serve as members of our project teams. It’s a way to transfer classroom-acquired knowledge to valuable, real-world experience.”
TIP was launched in 2013 and has provided framework to earn academic credit while collaborating with state personnel to advance transformation initiatives since.
Student interns take part in work assignments that take what they’ve learned in the classroom to project assignments that occur in public service careers.
The deadline to apply for the internship is June 13.
Those interested in applying should visit the TIP webpage or visit the ETS website.
Applicants are required to be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program with a junior or senior standing and a grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
