Waiakea Alum Min Wins WCC Golf Title

Waiakea High School graduate Ciera Min re-wrote Gonzaga’s golf record books on her way to winning the West Coast Conference Women’s Golf Championships in Danville, Calif. on Wednesday.

Min fired a 66 in her final round, good for a 6-under-par round, the lowest score under par in program history. It was good enough to erase an eight-shot deficit going into the final day of competition at Blackhawk Country Club.

“Ciera played one of the best rounds of golf in school history, on the final day of the biggest tournament no less,” said Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel in a school release. “It has been her dream to be the WCC champion and today she realized that dream.”

Min finished the three-day tournament at even-par, firing a 74, 76, and 66 to reach a total of 216. She finished three strokes ahead of four golfers, including teammate Bianca Pagdanganan, Santa Clara’s Annie Freman, and BYU’s Lea Garner and Rose Huang.

“It’s pretty amazing to win today,” said Min. “My one personal goal this year was to win a tournament, and for this to be my first win is awesome. Our team was so close to winning, and how we performed as a group definitely helps make this special.”

Additionally, Min was named to the All-WCC First Team for the season, her third straight all-conference selection. She had two top-ten finishes on the year.
