Suspect Sought in Kona iPhone Theft

Authorities are on the search for a man who is wanted in connection to the theft of an iPhone 6 Plus.

The incident occurred at about 5:49 p.m. on Saturday.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, a customer ahead of the suspect at a checkout in a Kailua-Kona store left their phone behind.

An unknown male removed the iPhone and was caught on surveillance video.

The Hawai’i Police Department describes the suspect as a “heavy-set Caucasian man.” He was wearing a blue t-shirt depicting a fish hook and Hawai’i Island in white spanning across the front. The suspect also had a black baseball hat with a white circular logo, blue surf shorts, and black slippers.

Police say the phone is described as a white and silver iPhone 6 Plus in a “Moshi” brand charcoal grey flip-type wallet case.

Anyone with information about the case or the identity of the man captured on surveillance should call Officer Andrew Walters at 326-4646 or the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.

Individuals who prefer to remain anonymous should call the Big Island Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300.
