Kuikahi Mediation Receives $5K to Support School Mediation Program

Kuikahi Mediation Center recently received a $5,000 grant from the Cooke Foundation, Ltd. to support its Peer Mediation Elementary School Pilot Project.

The program takes conflict resolution and prevention skills into East Hawai’i schools, where students are learning peacemaking skills.

“I am proud to be a mediator because I can help out and become a better person,” Tiara Autrata, a fifth-grade students part of the program said. “I have learned in peer mediation that conflict can be everywhere but I can mediate anywhere.”

Over 100 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students have been trained so far in the 2015 to 2016 school year at Hawai‘i Academy of Arts & Sciences, Kea‘au, Kapiolani, Keonepoko, Laupahoehoe, and Mountain View elementary schools.
