Aiona Announces Support of Rubio for President
Former Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona announced his endorsement for Marco Rubio for President of the United States on Monday.
In a statement, Aiona, who served from 2002 to 2010, said the following:
“Marco Rubio is the kind of leader Hawai’i needs in the White House. His story is similar to so many of us, his hard working parents immigrated here wanting nothing more than to give the best opportunities to their children. They succeeded in achieving the American dream, and with Marco as President, we can help lift more of our community up and help them achieve their dreams too. Marco’s vision for Hawai’i is like mine and he upholds the values of trust, respect, and balance in all of his actions.”
Representative Tulsi Gabbard is also among the Hawai’i leaders to publically announce their support for a presidential candidate. On Feb. 28, Representative Gabbard announced that she would resign from her role as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee as she endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders to be the next President.
Hawai’i’s Republican Caucus will be held on Tuesday. A total of 19 delegates are at stake in the caucus, which is being held by the Hawai’i Republican Party.
