Expired License Agreement Closes Big Island DHHL Lands
Portions of Kipuka ‘Ainahou, Mauna Kea Forest Reserve, and public hunting areas have been closed to the public as a result of an expired license agreement.
The closed portions belong to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.
These portions of land were being managed by the Department of Land and Natural Resources for public hunting and wildlife management purposes.
Since March 1, when the agreement expired, the public has not been allowed in these areas. They will remain closed until further noticed.
The Pu’u O’o trail within this area, managed by DLNR’s Na Ala Hele trails and access program, remains open.
