The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau is officially on.

Event organizers issued a Green Alert earlier this week ahead of a large northwest swell that was forecast to bring large waves to Oahu’s shores. Just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Aikau’s youngest brother, Clyde Aikau, announced to the crowd gathered at Waimea Bay that the event was a go.

Kona’s Shane Dorian is among 28 competitors who will take part in the competition, which was last run in 2009. He will be in Heat 1 during his first and second rounds.
