Lyman Museum to Host Talk on Hawai’i-Britain History
The Lyman Museum will host Dr. Keanu Sai, a political scientist at Windward Community College, on Monday, Feb. 1.
Dr. Sai will explore the complex historical connection between Britain and Hawai’i.
Some scholars claim that Kamehameha I recognized Britain’s King George III as his liege lord, and that between 1794 and 1843, the Hawaiian Kingdom was actually a part of the British Empire.
During the talk, Dr. Sai will explore the history behind the British Union Jack on the Hawaiian Flag and the history between Britain and Hawai’i.
The talk will begin at 7 p.m. at the Smithsonian-affiliated Lyman Museum.
