Wanted Man Arrested on Multitude of Offenses

Ronald Joseph Kong, 33, who was wanted for several warrants and a variety of additional charges, has been located and arrested by the Hawai’i Police Department.

At 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Kong was located at an Ainaloa residence in Puna.

Kong was arrested for six outstanding bench warrants, abuse of a family member; two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault, 18 firearms related charges, which include the possession of two handguns, a “sawed-off” shotgun, and a rifle with a silencer, two explosive/bomb related charges, two counts of first-degree burglary, three counts of second-degree theft, five counts of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, five counts of drug paraphernalia, and one count of third degree promotion of a detrimental drug.

The 33-year old man is reportedly accused of threatening a Circuit Court Judge.

Last week, police stopped Kong, who was driving a stolen vehicle, and later recovered items in the vehicle and backpack that led police to place him as a suspect in other cases.

Ultimately, Kong fled on foot into thick vegetation during the stop and was not located by police during the stop.

On Friday, multiple media reports suggested that authorities had set up a perimeter around a three-acre parcel in Hawaiian Acres.

Hawai’i News Now reported that HPD officers, along with Honolulu Police Department Bomb experts and FBI and ATF agents were on scene at the property, which was described as “wooded property that had two run down structures on it and a shack.” It was believed to have been rigged with explosives. Authorities reportedly moved in with armored vehicle.

Honolulu police bomb technicians gave the all-clear Friday after searching all day, according to HNN information.

Kong is currently being held at the Hilo Police Station cellblock pending further investigation.
