3.9M Earthquake Shook the Island Overnight
Did you feel it? Hawaiian Volcano Observatory notes that a 3.9 magnitude earthquake shook the Big Island early Monday morning.
The earthquake, which was recorded at 1:52 a.m., was located 4.1 miles north-northeast of the Mauna Loa Summit, 15.9 miles south-southwest of Pohakuloa, and 20.3 miles southeast of the Hualalai Summit.
HVO notes the earthquake occurred at a depth of 7.5 miles.
Four people on the island reported that they felt the temblor on the United States Geological survey’s “Did you Feel it?” website. Those individuals were in Captain Cook, Holualoa, Waikoloa, and Kailua-Kona.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue a tsunami advisory in connection to either of the earthquakes, and HVO did not release information connecting the earthquakes with volcanic activity.
