Hawai’i Meth Project Hosts Annual Art Contest

Submissions for the 2016 “Break the Ice” art contest are being accepted by the Hawai’i Meth Project.

The statewide initiative aims to communicate the risks of methamphetamine through art and empower youth to share the Hawai’i Meth Project’s “Not Even Once” message.

Students from all over the islands between the seventh and twelfth grades can submit art work before 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.

All entries much be submitted through the upload of a photo or a scan of the original artwork to the “Break the Ice” art contest website.

For artwork inspiration, entrants should visit the Hawai’i Meth Project website and explore the various facts, videos, animations, and information from experts and personal stories.

Using the information, teens should create a visual work of traditional or digital art that incorporates a clear anti-Meth theme with the goal of influencing how people view the drug.

There will be two categories for the submissions:

Traditional and digital art. The top entries will be recognized in two divisions – grades 7 to 9 and 10 to 12. Winners will receive prizes totaling up to $300.

Sticker design incorporating the “Not Even Once” slogan. The winner will receive a prize totaling up to $100 and may also have his or her winning sticker printed and distributed statewide through Hawai’i Meth Project outreach efforts.

A People’s Choice Award will also be awarded with a $100 prize. The entry that receives the most “likes” on the “Break the Ice” art contest webpage will win. The People’s Choice Award voting period runs from Feb. 16 – March 1.

All contest winners will be announced in March.

Entries must be wholly original, unpublished artwork and cannot incorporate or include anything that would violate copyright, trademark law, etc. of any third party.
