Police Investigating Sexual Assaults in Pi‘ihonua Area

Badge Hawaii Police DepartmentHawaiʻi Island police are investigating a double sexual assault that occurred on Tuesday Dec. 22, in the Pi‘ihonua area sometime between 1 and 4 p.m.

An unknown man who spoke pidgin approached an adult female and a minor female in the vicinity of the Piʻihonua bridge and led them to a remote area, where he sexually assaulted both of them.

The man is described as a dark-skinned “local male” with hazel eyes, an unshaven face, a black mustache and short black hair. He is in his late 30s or early 40s, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-8, about 200 pounds and has a medium build and a “beer belly.” He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue surf shorts and black sunglasses.

A two-wheel-drive pickup truck with a regular cab was parked nearby. It may or may not have been related to this case.

Police ask anyone who has any information about this case or the identity of the suspect to call the Hawai‘i Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or contact Detective Scott Amaral at 961-2276 or [email protected].
