Kea’au Seeking New Head Football Coach

Kea’au High School announced Monday that it is accepting applications for its open football head coaching position.

Kalei Young had served as Kea’au’s head coach for the last two full seasons, as well as the final four games of the 2013 season, replacing Michael Nonies, who resigned for personal reasons. Young was 1-3 during that stretch, but was still named Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I Coach of the Year in a curious vote by the league’s coaches.

In the last two seasons, however, Kea’au went 0-18 under Young, finishing in last place in the league’s Division I race in each of those seasons.

Young could not be reached for comment.

According to Kea’au Athletic Director Iris McGuire, applications will be accepted beginning on Dec. 1, and the deadline to submit paperwork is Dec. 31.
