UPDATE: No Tsunami Threat Following 7.6M Peru-Brazil Border Region Earthquake

The United States Geological Survey has since upgrades the earthquake to a 7.6 magnatude.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there is no tsunami threat to Hawai’i following a 7.5 magnitude earthquake in the Peru-Brazil border region.

Preliminary information listed the earthquake as a 6.9 magnitude.

According to PTWC, the earthquake occurred Friday at 12:46 p.m. Hawai’i time.

United States Geological Survey officials say the earthquake was located 107 miles west-northwest of Iberia Peru; 152 miles west-northwest of Cobija, Bolivia; 153 miles west of Brasileia, Brazil; 167 miles south of Tarauaca, Brazil; and 423 miles east-northeast of Lima, Peru.
