The United States Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report released its latest numbers for the month of September, ranking 16 of the country’s largest air carriers, including Hawaiian Airlines.

Hawaiian Airlines was ranked near the bottom of the list of on-time arrivals at number 11, with 84.2 percent of flights arriving on-time at all United States airports during the month of September.

Airline officials say the placement is the result of ongoing congestion due to airport construction, a higher volume of passenger traffic, and operational stoppages during the month due to lightning strikes at Hawai’i airports.

“This has been a disappointing month for us, which does not reflect how hard our employees work to maintain our industry-leading punctuality,” said Mark Dunkerley, president and chief executive officer at Hawaiian Airlines. “Our preliminary numbers for October are looking much better and should serve as a solid foundation for our resurgence back to the top spot.”

Hawaiian Airlines also slipped in August, where previously the airline held the top punctuality spot for 12 months.

Delta Airlines came out on top of the list with an on-time arrival percentage of 90.5. Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines took places two and three with 88.7 percent and 87.8 percent on-time arrivals, respectively.

Hawaiian Airlines flies non-stop services from Hawai’i to 11 cities in North America and about 160 daily flights between the Hawaiian Islands daily.
