UH-Hilo Lecture: Cultural Perspectives on Astronomy

The University of Hawai’i at Hilo will host a public presentation on Oct. 15 that will explore how countries respond differently to telescopes on their mountain peaks.

Marianne Takamiya, an associate professor of physics and astronomy at UH-Hilo, will speak during the lecture about the similarities and differences in how astronomy is received in various countries.

Takamiya uses telescopes to carry out research in the field of star formation in nearby and distant galaxies with undergraduate students and collaboratorsfrom  across the globe.

Thursday’s lecture is presented by the United Nations Association of the USA Hawai’i Island Chapter, in collaboration with UH-Hilo International Student Services and thenIntercultural Education Program.

The free workshop will take place at UH-Hilo’s Campus Center, Room 301 at 7 p.m..
