Police Investigate Honoka’a Pool Theft

Honoka’a Swimming Pool was broken into earlier this week, and the Hawai’i Police Department says there are no current leads as to who did it or why the incident happened.

Thieves took $4,500 worth of items from the public swimming pool, including an AED machine that is valued at $3,000.

A first-aid kit, hand tools, a DVD player and DVDs, a television, an empty cash box, a diver’s mask, an oxygen bag, and a mannequin used for first-aid training were among the additional items stolen.

Jason Armstrong, Public Information Officer for the County of Hawai’i Department of Parks and Recreation, told Big Island Now that the theft is believed to have taken place either Monday night after the pool was closed or early Tuesday morning before opening.

The pool was closed on Tuesday but resumed normal operating hours Wednesday.

An HPD official says that the incident continues to be investigated, but no additional details were available.
