The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Big Island, set to begin Friday evening and last through Monday.

NWS reports that a surge of deep tropical moisture north of Tropical Storm Niala is expected to reach the Big Island by Friday night and remain in place through the weekend. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to favor eastern through southern slopes, but have the potential to impact any part of the island.

Individual showers may be brief, according to officials. However, extreme accumulation is possible if showers continue at any given location.

Rain is forecasted to begin lightly Friday and increase on Saturday.

As the very moist air mass moves away to the west next week, the threat of heavy rain is also expected to diminish.
