Kaiser Ranks as Top Health Care Provider

The National Committee for Quality Assurance recently awarded Kaiser Permanente Hawai’i with top ratings for its Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial health plans.

NCQA, an independent health care quality assurance organization, uses a five-point rating system that is based on patient experience, treatment outcomes, and prevention efforts. The new system was used for the first time in NCQA’s 2015-2016 report.

Kaiser was rated as the top Medicaid plan in the country out of 149 Medicaid plans surveyed. It’s also the only plan in the country that received a five, which is the highest overall rating.

The insurance provider’s Medicare score ranked at a 4.5, the highest in the state, and in the top 13 percent across the country, out of 376 plans.

When it came to commercial plans, Kaiser was one of two plans that received the highest rating of 4.5, putting it in the top 12 percent of 491 plans in the country.

This was the eighth year in a row that a Kaiser commercial plan has received top marks in the state, and the 11^th year that its Medicare and Medicaid plans were noted as the top plan in the state.

NCQA used combined scores from Health Effectiveness Data and Information Set, the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, and NCQA Accreditation standard scores to determine its 2015-2016 ratings.
