UPDATE: Flood Advisory and Flood Warning Posted

In addition to the Flood Advisory issued for eastern and western portions of the Big Island, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Highway 11 at Kawa Flats through 9 p.m.

The roadway is currently closed between mile markers 58 and 59.

Radar is showing areas of light to moderate rain in the area but heavy rain earlier in the day is causing excessive runoff over the highway.

Naalehu, Kawa Flats, Punaluu Beach, Pahala and Hawaiian Ocean View are included in this advisory.

A Flood Advisory issued for western and southern portions of the Big Island has been extended through 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Just before 4:30 p.m., radar showed heavy showers over the leeward side of the island. The showers were gradually decreasing but a few locally heavy dourpours and runoff continue to be seen.

Civil Defense reports that a significant amount of water was crossing Highway 19 near mile marker 81. No roads are currently closed.

Heavy showers are concentrated near Keahole Point, south of Honaunau and near South Point.

Kailua-Kona, Captian Cook, Holualoa, Keauhou, and Honaunau are all within the advisory.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory through 4:30 p.m. for heavy showers developing over several different areas of the Big Island. The heaviest showers are once again affecting the area between Honaunau and Keahole Point.

Additional heavy showers will affect the leeward Kohala area from Mahukona to Kawaihae as well. Heavy rainfall is also occurring over Kau slopes from Wood Valley to Naalehu.

Locations in the advisory include, but are not limited to, Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Holualoa, Keauhou, Honaunau as well as the Kau and leeward portions of north and south Kohala districts.
