Arrest Made in King Kamehameha Statue Theft

An arrest has been made in connection to the case involving a stolen spear from the King Kamehameha statue in Hilo over the weekend.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, a former Oahu man, 31-year-old William Roy Carroll, was arrested in Hilo at 3 p.m. on Thursday on suspicion of second-degree theft and second-degree criminal property damage, in addition to suspicion of third-degree theft in connection with a pipe and chain that were taken from a nearby used car lot.

Carroll is being held at the Hilo police cellblock as Area I Criminal Investigations Section detective continue to investigate.

Police recovered the portion of the spear on Tuesday in an overgrown area near the statue.
