Late Night ‘Lights’ Likely Cosmos 1315 Payload

Lights flashing across the night sky late Sunday are believed to be the Cosmos 1315 payload launched in 1981. The information was released by the United States Department of Defense’s Joint Space Operations Center at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California Monday morning.

Big Island Now readers began to report the lights around 11 p.m. Sunday night.

One reader, Drew Boii, contacted Big Island Now with reports of what he described as “a huge flash in the sky and there was a huge bundle of shooting stars it looked like a mini meteor.”
