The American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter named four Big Island structures as winners of the 57th Annual Design Award for their architectural design in 2015.

Kahua Kuili, located in Kona, was recognized as one of the Residential Award of Excellence winners. Architect Gregory Warner with Walker Warner Architects designed the residence.
AIA’s Institutional Award Merit went to the Student Services Building at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. The building was designed by architect Lorrin Matsunaga with Urban Works, Inc.
Puako Beach Cottage received the Residential Award of Merit. The cottage was designed by architect Terrance Cisco with Terrance J. Cisco Architect, LLC.

Residential Honorable Mention went to Coral House, located in North Kona. The house was designed by architect Shay Zak with Zak Architecture. The structure was given honorable mention recognition for its “great execution of structure.”
Each year since 1958, AIA has recognized the year’s best in architectural projects at a gala event. The 2015 event was held at The Hawai’i Prince Hotel and Golf Club with over 250 in attendance.
Local AIA member-architects submitted Design Award Entrants, while nearly 1,200 members of the public voted online for their favorite of 36 projects. A panel of jurors, composed of AIA member-architects and other design professionals, determined the awards.
