The National Weather Service issued a Flood Advisory that was set to last through 10:45 p.m. Sunday, however, just before 11 p.m., NWS issued an extension to the advisory through 2:45 a.m. Monday.

NWS officials say the extension follows radar showing another band of locally heavy showers moving ashore along the southeast end of the Big Island.

It is expected that once the band moves ashore, it will likely stall over middle slopes.

Heavy rain southeast of Hawi hasconitnued to fall. Mahukona and Waipio Valley are also listed in the warning as areas being affected by heavy rain.

The wet conditions have caused a road closure at the 9.5 mile marker of Kohala Mountain Road. Hawai’i County Civil Defense says that water is covering the road in the area. Traffic is being detoured through the Kohala Ranch Subdivision.

Civil Defense Administrator Darryl Oliveira told Big Island Now that dangerous runoff conditions have also been reported between the six and nine mile markers of Highway 190 and a tree has fallen between the 18 and 19 mile markers of the highway. Officers from the Hawai’i Police Department are keeping traffic moving and have not closed those areas.
