Ige Releases Nearly $4M for Big Island CIP Projects
More than $40 million in funds from the State of Hawai’i’s capital improvements program was released on Thursday by Governor David Ige. The money will be administered by state departments and agencies.
“Building a Hawai’i we are proud to call home requires us to maintain and improve state facilities,” Gov. Ige commented. “These priority projects are investments that will boost our economy and better serve Hawai’i’s people.
“Funds spent now to repair and maintain the state’s housing facilities and schools will reduce project backlogs and prevent the maintenance requirements from becoming more significant in the coming years. More importantly, they will support families and children allowing them to thrive.”
The Big Island will receive nearly $4 million of what was released for various projects, including $2.7 million that will go directly to the Department of Transportation’s efforts at the Kona International Airport to make terminal modifications that would improve capacity, efficiency and security.
Other projects on the Big Island include:
Safety improvements on Hawai’i Belt Road from the Laupahoehoe Gulch to Ka’awali’i Gulch, $15,000.
Repair to termite damage on Ka’u High School’s gym floor, the school’s showers, and the replacement of lockers, $550,000.
Construction of drainage box culverts and the raising of the roaday along Mamalahoa Highway and Mud Lane in Waimea, $680,000.
Intersection improvements at the Mamalahoa Highway and Mud Lane cross, $20,000.
Statewide, $1,111,335 was released to assist the Hawai’i Public Housing Authority work on housing development, upgrades, and renovations. The HPHA oversees 85 properties with a total of 6,195 units.
Maui, Kauai and Oahu also received portions of the $40 million released.
