Kilauea Summit Update – 8/3/15
Slight deflationary activity at the summit of Kilauea on Sunday has begun to level off, according to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory’s Monday morning update.
Since Sunday morning, the lava lake within the Overlook crater has leveled off and dropped “a meter or two,” HVO reported.
All other activity at Kilauea’s summit has remained unchanged.
At Puʻu ʻŌʻō, no changed was observed. Several incandescent, outgassing crater vents remain. Seismicity continues at background levels.
HVO reports that poor weather bringing rain and clouds blocked webcam views Monday morning. The weather obstructed views down the rift of Puʻu ʻŌʻō, causing difficulty in monitoring efforts Monday.
Observation of the June 27, 2014 lava flow through webcam and satellite views continue to show activity on the flow field, according to HVO. The breakouts extend in an area 2.5 to 5 miles to the northeast of Puʻu ʻŌʻō.
