Kilauea Summit Update – 7/29/15

Only slight fluctuations in Kilauea summit tiltmeters was reported by Hawaiian Volcano Observatory on Wednesday as the summit’s deflationary tilt that began over the weekend started to level off on Tuesday.

Within the Overlook crater’s lava lake, HVO reported minor changes, as slight splattering continued.

Background levels of seismicity continue at the summit.

The Puʻu ʻŌʻō vent remains unchanged with no obvious tiltmeter activity occurring, according to HVO. Several incandescent, outgassing vents remain within the crater.

HVO reports that around 2 a.m. Wednesday, a small lava flow emerged from a vent on the east crater floor. The flow was confined to the Puʻu ʻŌʻō crater. It reportedly stopped 45 minutes later.

Observation of the June 27, 2014 lava flow continues to be monitored through webcam and satellite imagery. The images show activity on the flow field. Breakouts remain scattered 2.5 to 5 miles to the northeast of Puʻu ʻŌʻō.
